In the Camera Raw 5.0 thingy, what's the difference between increasing/decreasing exposure and brightness?

From my understanding, both are very similar...

Exposure increase all levels of the photo, shadows, mid tones, highlights...to make the picture brighter in all aspets...

however,

Brightness increase the levels too, especially the mid tones, but preserves the highlights...

Brightness can cause loss in contrast since mid tones and highlight range becomes closer... But unlike exposure, highlight parts will not be totally lost...

Very hard to explain XD try reading the web?

i usually increase the Exposure, well that if you shot in RAW. if you shot in JPEG, exposure actually damaged your pics. as exposure adjust the "hidden" levels that was caught when u shot in 12bit raw. JPEG are usually 8bit. so as your comp screens.

Ahh I see.

Somehow increasing brightness makes my picture looks more vibrant and punchy while increasing exposure makes my picture looks white and washed out (scenario for properly exposed picture)...
